TRANS PEOPLE DESERVE THE WORLD.

And we’re TIRED of being resilient. We want - and deserve - more than our society is providing to us. So many of us have been depressed with the stream of bullshit from the media, constant attacks on trans people, loosing our jobs from "DEI Cuts”, faced insecurity, can’t pay our rent, lost access to our healthcare, etc.

Enter the Trans Artist Markets, produced and organized by SharkyLemon LLC. With a goal of trans financial security, there will never be fees to vend. The financial burden of support is on the organizer and the individuals that can donate to our fund to cover costs.

Masks REQUIRED indoors and ENCOURAGED outdoors at these events.

OUR VALUES

  • DISABILITY JUSTICE

The organizer of these markets is disabled. More often than not, disabled folks are expected to advocate for themselves in market settings and/or are completely unable to participate due to lack of masking policies and/or transparency around space accessibility. I believe the burden of accessibility must be on able bodied folks to step aside and do what is needed to center disabled individuals, everywhere, but especially at these markets.

  • TRANS LIVES OVER CIS FEELINGS

We know trans folks are being targetted across all areas and platforms across the world. We are losing our jobs, our access to healthcare, and the ability to self-identify as ourselves in soceity. Cis folks are expected to center trans experiences while at the market. Transphobia will result in immediate removal from the event and bans for life from our organizing spaces.

  • BLACK, INDIGENOUS, AND PEOPLE OF CULTURE TO THE FRONT

All white folks are inherently racist. Minnesota, as a whole, is extremely unwelcoming to black trans folks specifically. By ensuring a seat at the table with 40% of ALL markets reserved for Black, Indigenous, and other people of culture, these spaces are designed for trans representation across all communities.

  • TRANS FINANCIAL SECURITY

Trans people, as a community, are some of the poorest marginalized communities in the country. We are often kicked out of our families or banished, unable to acrue any kind of generational wealth. We usually work historically-underpaid jobs and/or at non-profits that take advantage of our marginalization as token trans folks. No longer. These markets are designed to put money directly in the hands of trans people → we will NEVER charge a vendor a fee to table.

DONATE TO THE FUND

WHERE DOES

THIS $$

actually GO?

I believe the burden of financial responsibility should be on the organizers and hosts - not the artists. We do not charge a tabling fee and instead accept a $1 - $25 donation per market. These funds are collected through my personal Venmo (formerly also Square or Stripe, not anymore!) and go directly into a fund that pays 30% back to the artists, 15% to the organizer, and the rest into a kitty that pays for things like artist snacks, market insurance, sound permits, and other administrative needs.
