Leigh Finke (she/her) In 2022, she made history as the first out trans person elected to the Minnesota Legislature as a member of the House of Representatives. Throughout her first term, Leigh served as the chair of the Queer Legislators’ Caucus while successfully legislating for issues that matter to her constituents, including: Establishing a trans refuge state and protections for gender affirming care; Securing $10+ Million for tree planting statewide and $1 Million for 2SLGBTQIA Workforce Development; Expanding nation-leading child tax credit; and Passing the first significant gun violence prevention laws in a decade.
Today, Leigh is a committed and passionate advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ equality, abortion rights, prison justice, and environmental equity. She was named Minnesota Woman of the Year by USA Today in 2023, a 2023 Changemaker by Minnesota Public Radio, recipient of the 2023 Health Hero Award at Children’s Minnesota, and won the 2024 Animal Advocate Award from the Animal Humane Society.
